Course Content

Feel like you could be more effective in everyday life? Want to learn how to write a great CV, start a side hustle or cook a proper meal without setting off the smoke alarm? This six-month course covers a broad range of practical life skills from managing money to mastering basic cooking, with step-by-step support from a personal finance expert along the way. How does the course work? The course is fully online, self-paced to fit around existing commitments and can be started anytime. Each week includes a short video and a practical (but theoretical!) task or cooking a recipe, taking around an hour in total. The course material is delivered via your online account on our website and we're on hand to answer any questions. We’re an Approved Activity Provider (AAP) for the Skills section of The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Once you’ve completed the course, we’ll submit your personalised assessor’s report on your eDofE account and send you a certificate of achievement. What does the course cover? Part One: Everyday Skills & Money Management You’ll learn: • How to be a savvy shopper and save money on everyday costs. • How to earn extra money from a side hustle. • What to know about buying a home or owning a car. • How to manage your time more effectively. • How to negotiate and communicate with confidence. • How to write a strong CV to help you land your first job. Part Two: Cooking Skills You’ll learn: • Basic cooking skills and take part in a grocery bill challenge. • How to cook a range of simple, nutritious recipes, including chocolate brownies, homemade pizza and American-style pancakes.
