Course Content

Do you want to learn how to make money from investing but feel a bit overwhelmed at how to get started? We’ll take you through the basics of investing in shares and funds in an easy-to-understand way so you build up your investing skills week-by-week. The finale of the course is a (theoretical!) share challenge where you can show off your new skills and try to make a profit. Our online, self-paced course will equip you with the essential skills to manage your investments, including one-on-one help and feedback from an investment expert. How does the course work? The course is online, can be started at any time and is self-paced so you can fit it around existing commitments. The course material is delivered via your online account on our website. Each week consists of a 10-15 minute video to watch, followed by a real-life (but theoretical!) task to practise your skills. This could be looking at share price movements for a company of your choice, researching a sector or picking a low-cost investment platform. Together, the video and task should take an hour to complete and we’re here to answer any questions on the video or task. We are a licensed Skills Section Approved Activity Provider (AAP) for The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Once you’ve completed the course, we will complete your personalised assessor’s report and submit this directly on your eDofE account. Don't worry, you'll also receive a copy of the report and a certificate of achievement. What does the course cover? You’ll learn the basics you should know about buying and selling shares and funds, including: • Why share prices move and how you can make a profit. • How to create a balanced portfolio to balance risk and reward. • How to research sectors and companies to decide which shares to buy. • How to choose your trading platform. • A four-week portfolio challenge: you'll pick your shares and funds for a theoretical portfolio and see if you can make a profit!
